Columbia Chevron Super Scarf
Fight off the blustery winter weather in style with this oversized "super scarf." Whether it's worn draped over the shoulder like a long shawl or wrapped around the neck for extra warmth, the super bulky crochet fabric is sure to keep you toasty. The scarf is extra long and wide but not overwhelming, and the uneven stripes and asymmetric pompom detail add a touch of intrigue and sophistication. MATERIALS:
5 skeins Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Charcoal or approx. 530yds/485m of another super bulky weight, cat. 6 yarn for Color A
1 skein Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Fisherman or approx. 106yds/97m of another super bulky weight, cat. 6 yarn for Color B

FINISHED SIZE:
Width: 15”/38cm

7 sts + 4 rows = 4”/10cm in double crochet

Dc2tog - double crochet 2 together

Note: Scarf is worked in a classic crochet chevron pattern. There is not a turning chain at the beginning of each row. The sc, ch 1, and first dc of each row imitates a decrease to match the dc2tog at the end of each row. This helps keep the edges straight so that there isn’t extra bulk from a turning chain or a hole left from skipping a stitch in traditional double crochet rows. To change color, work the last yarn over of the previous row in the new color.
Ch 30 with color A.
Row 1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 1, ch 1, dc 13, 3 dc in next st, dc 12, dc2tog.
Rows 2-8: Sc 1, ch 1, dc 13, 3 dc in next st, dc 12, dc2tog.
Change to color B.
Row 9: Sc 1, ch 1, dc 13, 3 dc in next st, dc 12, dc2tog.
Change to color A.
Rows 10-12: Sc 1, ch 1, dc 13, 3 dc in next st, dc 12, dc2tog.
Change to color B.
Row 13: Sc 1, ch 1, dc 13, 3 dc in next st, dc 12, dc2tog.

Pompoms (make 3):
If using pompom maker, create pompoms to desired fullness using the remaining yarn of color B.
To make by hand, cut an 18”/46cm piece of yarn for each pompom. With palm of hand facing you and fingers pointed up, drape one of the lengths between your middle and ring fingers. Wrap 1/3 of the remaining yarn from the skein around and around your four fingers. Bring the 18”/46cm length up and around the bundle, carefully slide the bundle off of your fingers, and tightly double knot the length around the center of the bundle so that it forms a bowtie shape. Cut through all of the loops and, being careful not to cut the two tie ends, trim and shape the pompom until it is fluffy and rounded. Repeat for the other two pompoms. Using the two tie ends of each pompom, secure them to the points of the chevron – 2 at the beginning of the scarf and 1 at the end of the scarf. Secure and weave in all ends.
